About this deal

By 2023, Darren's books were on sale in every continent, in 40 countries, in 32 languages, and have been children's bestsellers in America, Britain, Ireland, the Netherlands, Norway and other countries. I started this series after reading "Darren Shan Saga" and while I expected something different and distinct, I wasn't expecting so much originality and uniqueness. On opening his bedroom door, Grubbs finds not the bedroom but Hell and the dead bodies of his father, mother and younger sister, all murdered by Lord Loss and his demons.

As far as villains go, Lord Loss is evil through and through, creepy, and even I wanted him to leave. On several occasions, he has displayed polite and elegant mannerisms which contrast sharply with other more bestial behaviour undertaken at the same time: for example, at the end of his chess game in the first book, he graciously escorts Dervish Grady to the portal to the Demonata Universe, and then tries to rip his throat out moments later. One night, he finds the mutilated bodies of his family and encounters Lord Loss, a gruesome human-like demon who sets his two familiars, Vein and Artery, on Grubbs.Next he wrote The Saga Of Larten Crepsley, a four book prequel series to his original vampire saga, spanning two hundred years in the life of the title character. While he claims he does not fear Beranabus, he is nonetheless unwilling to face the Demonata's deadliest enemy in direct combat. When he and his cousin/best friend Bill-E Spleen (I still remember that name :D) investigate they stumble onto a truth they never could have expected. After some time, a not very known relative appears, Dervish Grady, who takes Grubbs under his wing to protect and care for him. As the book goes on the tension and sense of desperation builds to a fever-pitch, culminating in a shocking betrayal and a deadly final confrontation.

Grubbs figures that it's better for Bill-E to believe that Dervish is his father, since his real father is dead. He also has the ability to feed on a persons pain, which he needs the way a human needs food and water. Bill-E tells Grubbs of his belief that Dervish may actually be his father, given how close they were before then, but tells Grubbs to keep it a secret from him, which he agrees. Lord Loss makes no apperance, he is only mentioned, this is the only one where he does not show up at all, though he does send Juni Swan.On the other hand, if you like magic and have a slightly weird turn of the soul, you'll really get into this. When Grubbs Grady first encounters Lord Loss and his evil minions, he learns three things:* the world is vicious,* magic is possible,* demons are real. Lord Loss kills people in the cruelest ways he can think of; in Bec he has the zombies of Orna's own children eat her alive all to provide him with a delicious meal. He's put in a mental hospital because he keeps saying that demons killed his family, which the doctors think isn't true.
