About this deal

Mia is black, gay, often bullied beyond rational logic, her own mental state too low for her to defend herself against the brutish attacks of the other women in the unit. Despite all these moving parts, I felt completely at ease with this story’s layers—Brookmyre masterfully leads the reader down rabbit holes and through a maze to the truth at the core of this book. My husband enjoyed reading this book telling the story behind the Black Widow and who she came in contact with.

Brookmyre’s exploration of the female tendency to allow self-doubt to infiltrate and concede fault when we know it isn’t warranted is as gripping and harrowing as any tale of murder. The characters are very good, they’re all well developed and you see their individual personalities very clearly. All'inizio del racconto, Rachel, la prima moglie, una devota mormone, molto modesta, è quella che proprio non sopporto. I didn't even care that it was multi-POV (not a narrative style I usually like) because each of the three wives were all so distinct and interesting in their own way. Mia reminds Stacey of her sister in many ways, including a hidden condition she was once forced to suffer alone. Page-turning, fresh, and just the right amount of weird, THE FAMILY GAME is a perfect choice for your winter to-read list.

Sounds like something you'd find products for on daytime TV, like comfy track suits and compression socks. My only complaint, and honestly the reason why this book isn't a four star read, is that the book is entirely too long. Ranked from Christmas level 1 - 5 (with Level 1 being Christmas in the background of the story, and Level 5 being a full-on, 100% Christmas-y plot!

BLOOD SISTERS will be published in September, but thanks to Vanessa and her publisher, we’re able to get an exclusive early glimpse into the book right here in today’s blog post! This book has so much Mormon influence, the entire book is based on the societal norms and standards prevailing in that paticular region. With her signature warmth, hilarity, and tendency to overshare, Leslie Gray Streeter gives us real talk about love, loss, grief, and healing in your own way that "will make you laugh and cry, sometimes on the same page" (James Patterson).

However, I do think it is a good incite to that world and many people will have a positive experience listening to this audiobook. At Gabriel’s behest, she will pose as an ISIS recruit in waiting, a ticking time bomb, a black widow out for blood. Her beloved Jason Cole is lying dead in the hallway of his own home, blood-soaked, naked, exactly where she left him. Se ripenso all’inizio con Blake, noi due e basta, mi sembra troppa responsabilità, per una donna sola.

We have come to expect no less from author Christopher Brookmyre, who combines memorable protagonists and sharp-elbowed antagonists with twists and turns, dark humor and pathos. By completing your purchase, you agree to Audible's Conditions of Use and authorise Audible to charge your designated card or any other card on file. If you’ve been looking for an excuse to visit Iceland, or if you’re curious about attending a crime fiction festival in the future, I highly recommend adding Iceland Noir to your bucket list.
