About this deal

Megan's enthusiasm for biodiversity and passion to save endangered species from extinction shines throughout. Drawing from the testimony of scientists, conservationists and rangers, this beautiful and important volume explores the countless extraordinary species facing extinction and maps a hopeful path to changing our perception and appreciation of the natural world. Her interest stems from a childhood growing up in and around the Isle of Wight Zoo, which specialises in the rescue and rehabilitation of ex-circus and pet trade animals. There are currently 41,415 listed endangered species, and over 16,000 of them are threatened with extinction.

Also included is one plant species, an orchid, making me aware of the practice of plant poaching, which is making many species of plant similarly in danger of extinction. It examines different ecosystems, the major threats to their inhabitants and steps being taken towards conservation. A keen photographer, in 2019 she was appointed as the coordinator and judge of Young Bird Photographer of the Year. Most well-known for presenting the BAFTA award-winning BBC Springwatch series and Animal Park , Megan is a passionate science communicator and biodiversity activist.

A really brilliant insight into an array of endangered species with a fantastic mix of facts and real life experiences. I listened so I didn't see the dyslexia friendly version of the book but I thought this was brilliant, something that had never occurred to me. Richard Mackay is a specialist in environmental impact assessment and environmental policy maker for major companies. An Atlas of Endangered Animals is a beautifully illustrated, fascinating and important document of an incredible world at risk, and, just maybe, a handbook for restoring it. With a third mass extinction on our doorstep, it's also very timely, and I'm delighted to see that it's been written by one of the foremost of the generation of new, young naturalists that are helping to change our perception and appreciation of the natural world.

Pretty sound balance in coupling her own experiences with the essential facts for each of the species that are covered.Megan McCubbin reveals the stories of the scientists, rangers and conservationists who are fighting to save these extraordinary creatures from extinction. An Atlas of Endangered Animals' is a beautifully illustrated, fascinating and important document of an incredible world at risk, and, just maybe, a handbook for restoring it. Beautifully written, capturing the wonder and personality of each creature, big and small perfectly. I thought the book is well made its lovely, its nicely presented with further details on the subject and with the added Megan's experiences etc.
